02 / ASPHALT AND MACADAM SUPPLY

Asphalt and macadam materials we supply

Asphalt and macadam materials are described by their mix and the layer they are used in. AC 6 dense surface course is a fine, dense mix often used for thinner surfacing jobs such as footways. AC 10 close graded surface course is a common all round surface course material used for driveways, car parks and roads. AC 20 dense binder course sits beneath the surface course as the main structural layer that carries the load.

Why hot material needs laying promptly

Hot asphalt and macadam start to cool as soon as they leave the plant, and they need to be laid and compacted while still warm enough to bed in and bond properly. That means timing a delivery to match when you are ready to lay, rather than ordering material to sit on site.

Cold lay material works differently. It is designed for small repairs such as potholes and does not need laying hot, which makes it useful when a full hot lay job is not practical.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

01

Do you supply and deliver asphalt without laying it?

We supply and deliver hot asphalt and macadam for trade customers and builders, as well as laying it ourselves on our own jobs. Get in touch with the quantity and material you need and we will confirm what we can supply.

02

What is the difference between AC 6, AC 10 and AC 20?

These are standard asphalt mixes used in different layers. AC 6 dense surface course is a fine mix for thinner surfacing. AC 10 close graded surface course is a common all round material for driveways, car parks and roads. AC 20 dense binder course is the structural layer beneath the surface course that carries most of the load.

03

How quickly does hot asphalt need to be laid?

Hot asphalt and macadam cool from the moment they leave the plant, so they need to be laid and compacted while still warm enough to bond properly. We work with you on timing so material arrives when you are ready to lay it, rather than sitting on site cooling down.

04

Do you supply cold lay material for repairs?

Yes, cold lay material is available for smaller repair jobs such as potholes, where a full hot lay is not practical. It does not need laying hot, though it is generally used for patch repairs rather than full resurfacing.

05

What delivery area do you cover for material supply?

We're based in Essex and work nationwide across England. Get in touch with your location and the quantity you need and we will confirm whether we can deliver to you.
