01 / OVERVIEW

Civil works that go with the surface

A road, yard or car park is only as good as the work underneath it. Our civil works cover the parts of a job that come before the final surface: getting water away, connecting new drainage into the sewer, and building the junction where a new access meets the public road.

Because we also lay the tarmac, concrete and kerbs, you can have one contractor for the job from the first dig to the finished surface, rather than handing over between separate teams.

02 / CIVIL WORKS AND DRAINAGE

Drainage for roads, yards and car parks

We install drainage to take surface water away from roads, car parks, yards and compounds. Levels and falls are set so the finished surface sheds water to the drainage points, rather than leaving standing water that damages the surface over time.

The right drainage depends on the site, the ground and where the water needs to go, so we look at this first when we visit and plan the surfacing around it.

  • Surface water drainage for new and existing surfaces
  • Levels and falls set to suit the drainage
  • Drainage planned together with the surfacing

03 / IN DETAIL

Civil works and drainage, done properly

What goes into the job, and what to expect from us.

Sewer connections

We carry out sewer connections for new developments and sites, linking new drainage into the existing sewer. A connection to a public sewer needs approval from the sewerage company that owns it before any work starts, so we'll talk through what your site needs at the quote stage.

Bellmouths built to highways specification

A bellmouth is the widened, curved junction where a new access road or site entrance meets an existing road. Because it joins the public highway, it has to be built to the highway authority's specification, from the construction layers to the kerbs and the final surface.

We build bellmouths to the specification set for the job, with the kerbing and surfacing finished by our own crew.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

01

What is a bellmouth?

A bellmouth is the flared junction where a new road, access or site entrance joins an existing road. Its curved kerb lines let vehicles turn in and out safely. Where it meets the public highway, it must be built to the highway authority's specification.

02

Do you carry out sewer connections?

Yes, we carry out sewer connections as part of our civil works. Connecting to a public sewer needs approval from the sewerage company before work starts, so we'll discuss what's needed for your site when we quote.

03

Can you do the drainage and the surfacing on the same job?

Yes. We carry out drainage and civil works alongside our tarmac, concrete and kerbing, so the same team plans the levels, the drainage and the finished surface together.

04

Where do you carry out civil works?

We're based in Brightlingsea, near Colchester, in Essex, and we work nationwide across England. Get in touch with your site location and what the job involves.
